Oxford University Hospitals goes live with Insignia’s Enterprise PACS

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust deploys class-leading InSight 4D Viewer, regional sharing, and advanced home reporting services

Insignia Medical Systems has deployed its next-generation, integrated Enterprise Imaging PACS service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), a world-renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK.

The trust consists of four hospitals, three in Oxford and one in the north of the county.

Across all sites it performs over 500,000 radiology examinations a year and chose Insignia to provide its full suite of PACS products, including the class-leading InSight 4D Viewer, regional sharing, and advanced home reporting services.

The migration of over 100TB of historical data is one of the largest ever undertaken in the UK, and took place in just four months using the proven Insignia Migration Service.

As part of the deployment, Insignia merged Breast Screening into the main PACS, allowing the sites to be able to view symptomatic and screening imaging in the same application for the first time.

The next step for the trust is to enable the sharing service between themselves and their neighbouring organisations using the Insignia Sharing Solution, which will enable it to immediately and automatically view the entire regional patient radiology image record.

Shared services and cross-site home reporting will enable ground-breaking service transformation for the NHS throughout the region.

Annie Pinfold, PACS RIS systems senior consultant at the trust, said: “Insignia and trust staff worked alongside each other to quickly resolve any issues that arose.

“The onsite support during the go-live and in the weeks afterwards was plentiful and excellent.

Some key groups of clinicians are already seeing benefits from quicker access to studies sent from other trusts.”

Erik Dege, operations manager at Insignia Medical Systems, said: “Insignia is proud to be live at one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK.

“The trust and Insignia teams worked closely together to deliver such a large project in an exceptional timescale and we look forward to continuing a strong working relationship and helping to deliver improved services and patient care.”
