Mid Staffordshire trust goes live with Medway PAS

Patient administration and electronic patient record system deployed across Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals

Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust has announced the successful go-live of its new patient administration and electronic patient record system.

Medway, supplied by System C, a McKesson Company, went live on 28 September at Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals.

Gill Baker, the trust’s associate director of IM&T, said: “The migration of around 15 million records from our previous PAS system was conducted overnight from Friday to Saturday. All wards went live on the Saturday evening and then outpatient departments from Monday, 30 September. There was no reduction in hospital activity over this period.”

This new system will benefit patients because it will capture information about their whole journey within our organisation, which means that doctors, nurses and support staff will have access to all their information in one place, helping us to make the right decisions about the best care

The Medway modules implemented include a Master Patient Index, inpatients, outpatients, case note tracking, and results reporting. These were provided with an integrated data warehouse and reporting tool. Integration with existing systems at the trust is provided through the Medway Connect integration platform.

Dr John Hawkins added: “We are delighted that we have now got the new system up and running. We have carried out all the training and I and my colleagues are looking forward to using it on a day-to-day basis.
