UroShield could help 90,000 patients avoid complications
UroShield has the potential to reduce catheter-related infections
Ideal Medical Solutions has announced the UK availability of UroShield, an advanced device which prevents painful Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs and could save the NHS millions of pounds each year.
It’s estimated that each year, around 90,000 Britons are living with a long-term indwelling catheter, statistically many of whom will develop infections which can be life-threatening.
Catheter-Associated UTIs, known as CAUTIs, cost the NHS millions of pounds each year, with a single episode given by NICE Guidelines as £1,968.
This is due to many factors such as hospital admissions, nights spent in hospital, doctor and nurse time, antibiotics, lab cultures and any associated complications.
UroShield is having brilliant results in patients struggling with recurrent UTIs and catheter blockages, relieving some of their catheter-related pain, discomfort and bladder spasms
They also contribute to the global crisis of antibiotic resistance, further endangering the patient and the wider population.
Now, a simple device called UroShield can dramatically reduce, and even prevent, these infections.
Small and nonintrusive, the device simply clips onto any catheter and generates gentle vibrations with ultrasound, which cannot be felt by the patient. This prevents the build-up of bacteria to form a biofilm, which is responsible for these dangerous infections.
Backed by a wealth of medical and scientific data, UroShield has proven extremely effective in clinical trials in the US and is now available in the UK.
One of the UK’s leading urologists, Chris Ogden, said: “UroShield is having brilliant results in patients struggling with recurrent UTIs and catheter blockages, relieving some of their catheter-related pain, discomfort and bladder spasms.
“It’s helping to improve quality of life, giving some people more confidence to be out and about without worrying about spontaneous catheter-related complications.”
UroShield is now available both to medical professionals and direct to patients through the Ideal UroShield website.
