Alcidion will implement the Better OPENeP electronic prescribing and medication management solution at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust aims to be paper-free by the end of the year
Alcidion Group has reached an agreement with Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust to implement its OPENeP Electronic Prescribing and Medications Administration (ePMA) system produced by Better.
The £1m, six-year contract extends Alcidion’s existing relationship with the trust after a contract was signed in 2019 for the first implementation of Alcidion’s full product suite in the UK.
The Patientrack solution was implemented early last year and planning is currently underway to implement the Miya Precision and Smartpage solutions.
The agreement follows Alcidion’s award as preferred provider by the trust, a status previously announced in July 2019 and subject to final approval by the trust and successful negotiation of terms.
Alcidion was appointed as a reseller and implementer of the OPENeP solution in April 2019 for the UK, Australia and New Zealand health sectors.
And this project will represent Alcidion’s first implementation of OPENeP.
Dartford and Gravesham is a forward-looking NHS trust with an ambitious strategic plan of achieving full digital maturity by the adoption of integrated, best-of-breed technology solutions and being paperless at the point of care by the end of this year.
Neil Perry, director of digital transformation at the trust, said: “We were excited by the range of technologies that Alcidion could provide us to achieve our objectives.
By collaborating with Alcidion at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, we aim to create an environment which maximises patient safety, improves collaboration among staff, and prevents unnecessary errors. All this will lead to better patient outcomes
“Its partnership with Better allows us to address electronic prescribing and medications management to further complete the picture”.
The comprehensive medication management information arising from OPENeP will be fully integrated with the powerful capabilities of Miya Precision, enhancing clinical decision support and extending the scope of the electronic patient record.
Roko Malkoč, business unit manager for OPENeP, commented: “Patients should be the focus, and it is in their interest to always get accurate treatment of the highest quality.

And Alcidion managing director, Kate Quirke, added: “After receiving preferred provider status in July, we are delighted to extend our existing relationship with the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.
“Our approach to improving healthcare delivery is closely aligned with the goals of the trust and we are excited to demonstrate the effectiveness of the consolidated solution.”
